I think I may finally get San Francisco. I had a great day yesterday strolling about the suburbs, looking are weird things and eating delicious mountains of food. I still have a few issues, but I have come to see this as a great city.
The last two GDCs have had a theme for me, a mission of sorts. The first year I was obsessed with with process. I would ask questions of everyone I met.
- How does your team work?
- How do you make decisions?
- What do you use to communicate?
I was amazed by how may teams I met that worked remotely and were meeting for the first time in person. It really changed the way I thought about team work and collaboration.
Last year was all about community. I knew that there was a missing event in our local community and I was determined to find out how to fill it. These investigations led to dubLUDO. I cannot say that I have been 100% successful in filling the gap, but I think the event has become an important part of our community.
I'm not sure what this year is going to be about, I think that it will present itself over the next few days. So far I have been recruiting dubLUDO speakers, finding cameo-sullcaps for FraknJohn and eating a lot of great food.
